Interpol sends reminder to Mumbai Crime Branch about Saif Ali Khan's wild boar hunt

The Interpol recently sent a reminder to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch after it failed to respond to a questionnaire sent to it by Bulgarian authorities in connection with Saif Ali Khan’s failure to make full payment in a wild boar hunting expedition in 2013. The Interpol has asked for the actor’s statement at the earliest. However, Crime Branch officials claim that Saif has sought more time to recollect the incident.

The Sacred Games actor along with his three friends had allegedly gone on a legal wild boar hunting expedition in the Carpathian Mountains in Sfantu Gheorghe in Romania between November 29 and December 2, 2013. They had sought services of a Bulgarian company that specializes in procuring the required permits and licenses for such hunting expeditions. The company had approached the Bulgarian authorities after the full payment was not made. A questionnaire was sent to the Mumbai Crime Branch seeking Saif’s statement which was forwarded to the actor in June. However, Saif sought more time to recollect the incident that happened five years back.

A senior official confirmed that the reminder was served to the Crime Branch and Saif was informed about the same. However, they are still awaiting an answer from the actor, and once they receive his response, the Crime Branch would then forward it to the Bulgarian judicial authorities.

An officer of the Crime Branch told a leading daily, “The hunting cost them around 24,000 euros, of which 14,000 euros was paid in cash by the actor. However, after he left Bulgaria, the company contacted him again asking for the full payment. He informed that the money was transferred to the agent’s account.”

Apparently, the middleman in the deal failed to make further payments after which the company was left with no option other than to contact the Bulgarian authorities. The agent was booked for non-payment while Saif with his three friends were served a set of the questionnaire through Interpol.
