Payal Ghosh who got a defamation case filed against her by Richa Chadha responded to the actress’ case. Reacting to the same, Payal told a news agency, “I don’t have anything to do with Richa Chadha. I did not defame her so I don’t understand what her case is all about. I have only stated what Mr. Kashyap had told me. It’s not my personal view. So this defamation case is not valid. Anyways, if she has said that, then will face that and we’ll clarify.”
She further added, “This is completely a false accusation. I don't understand what I have to do with this case. Why is she trying to defame me? She should instead ask Mr Kashyap why he took her name. I don't know her personally. We will go to the court and clarify. I have only said what Mr Kashyap told me. It is not me who has taken names.” Payal had claimed that Richa and several other actresses have returned sexual favours to Kashyap against whom she has lodged a sexual misconduct complaint.

This is not the first time Payal has cleared her stand against Richa. In an earlier interview, she had stated that she quoted only what the filmmaker told her and it’s not her version of the story. Richa filed a case before Bombay High Court for Rs.1.10 Crores against Payal for ‘tarnishing her reputation’ and subjecting her to ‘immense humiliation, ridicule, unwanted speculation, harassment, harsh public scrutiny and loss of business opportunity and goodwill thereby causing tremendous stress and mental agony’.

Richa's defamation case also had Kamaal R Khan, a news channel and others as perpetrators. She took to social media to remind him about the court hearing. A single judge bench of Justice Anil K Menon heard Richa’s application-filed through senior counsel Veerendra Tulzapurkar and advocate Saveena Bedi Sachar, but no one appeared on Payal’s and Kamaal’s behalf. The court has adjourned the case till October 7.
