Car designer Dilip Chhabria to be probed in fresh case of cheating comedian Kapil Sharma of Rs 5.70 crore, custody extended

On January 7, comedian Kapil Sharma was summoned by the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police for his statement in connection with Dilip Chhabria's forgery case. Kapil recorded his statement at the Mumbai Crime Branch office. Kapil, in his statement, revealed he had paid money to Dilip for his vanity van however, he later registered a cheating and forgery case with the police as Chhabria did not get the work done. 

Now, Dilip's custody has been extended by a Mumbai magistrate court after he was arrested by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch in connection with a car financing and forgery scam worth at least Rs 40 crore. Dilip will now be questioned by the agency with regards to Kapil's complaint. Kapil claimed that he has been duped of Rs 5.5 crore by Dilip. Investigating officer Riyaz Kazi confirmed the development in court today.

However advocate Vagish Mishra, appearing for Chhabaria opposed the plea, insisted that the fresh FIR was filed at the instance of Dilip's partner who has been pressurizing him to agree to his terms and conditions. Mishra said, "We are opposing this. There will be 15 other FIRs. This is a civil dispute. It has been colourised into a criminal case to harass the accused. The prosecution is helping the people who are asking us to agree to their terms of the agreement."

Dilip designed cars for almost all A-lister celebrities. He was booked under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120 (B) and 34 of the Indian Penal code. His car was also seized by the police. He was arrested by API Sachin Vaze and his team from his office in MIDC after an offense was registered against him on December 19.
