'No one is above the law,' says Delhi court to Yo Yo Honey Singh for not appearing in domestic violence case; seeks medical report and details of income tax return

Earlier this month, Yo Yo Honey Singh's wife Shalini Talwar filed a case of domestic violence, sexual violence, mental harassment and financial violence against him in Delhi’s Tis Hazari court. Now, on Saturday, a court in Delhi came down heavily on the rapper for not appearing before the court. According to reports, Honey sought exemption from appearing in the domestic violence case citing medical reasons.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tania Singh reportedly told, "No one is above the law. Surprised to see how this case is being taken so lightly." As per reports, the court told the rapper's lawyer, "Honey Singh has not appeared. You have not filed his income affidavit and are not prepared with the arguments." A report stated the court gave Honey one last opportunity to appear before the court on the next hearing- September 3.

Reportedly, the court sought Honey's medical reports as well as details of his income tax returns. The rapper's lawyer assured the court that the necessary documents will be submitted at the earliest. The lawyer also said that Honey, despite not keeping well, will appear on the next date of hearing.

Shalini filed the case on August 3 under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. Days later, she reportedly sought Rs 10 crore compensation saying she felt like a "farm animal...being treated cruelly".
