Sherlyn Chopra, who was slapped with a defamation suit by Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra has reacted to the notice saying the couple’s action is a “weapon to stifle the pursuit of justice”, and said that the couple had threatened her with the underworld.
Sherlyn had been pretty vocal against Kundra on his pornography case and had lodged a complaint against him and Shilpa on October 14 for alleged sexual harassment, cheating and criminal intimidation. In retaliation to her complaint, the actress and her husband had filed a Rs 50 crore defamation suit against Sherlyn and demanded a public apology. They had termed Sherlyn’s accusations as "concocted, false, frivolous and baseless…made with an ulterior motive to defame and extort money".
Raj Kundra & Shilpa Shetty threatened me with underworld&now sent me defamation notice but I'll not get scared. I request police to record my statement so that cognizance can be taken of my complaint. I've sent reply notice asking for Rs75 cr for mental harassment: Sherlyn Chopra pic.twitter.com/cn8eFPcjtW

Now, talking to a news agency, Sherlyn said, “Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty threatened me with underworld and now sent me defamation notice but I'll not get scared. I request police to record my statement so that cognizance can be taken of my complaint. I've sent reply notice asking for Rs75 cr for mental harassment. The Right to Reputation & the Right to Privacy cannot be protected at the cost of the Right to Life & Dignity which comes under the ambit of Article 21 of the Constitution of India."
She had shared the papers of her reply on Twitter and her lawyer had maintained that the defamation suit was a cover up to ‘turn’ the tables on Sherlyn so that she could be intimidated and silenced in the pornography case. Sherlyn had claimed in July that she was the first person to give statement to the Maharashtra Police Cyber cell in Kundra’s case and is seeking anticipatory bail in the Bombay High Court.
