Liju Krishna, the director of upcoming Malayalam film Padavettu has been arrested from Kerala’s Kannur on Sunday after being accused of rape. The debutant film director will be produced before a magistrate in Kochi on Monday as per reports. The complaint against him was filed by a woman at the Infopark police station in Kakkanad. The shooting of Padavettu has been put on hold following Liju’s arrest.
An online portal quoted a police officer who said, “Liju Krishna has been arrested under section 376 IPC. We cannot give out any details of the complainant, but she isn't from the film industry as such. Instead, (she) is someone well known to him.”
Allegedly, Liju assaulted the woman on various occasions over six months from December 2020 to June 2021. He had met her through social media and was living with her. He raped her on the pretext of marrying her.
Padavettu is slated to release later this year and stars Manju Warrier and Nivin Pauly in the lead.
