Director Shaad Ali’s next film, a sports biopic on former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh, will likely be called Flicker Singh. The Ok Jannu filmmaker has picked Punjabi singing sensation Diljit Dosanjh to play the title role.
Sandeep Singh, under whose captaincy India beat hockey giant Malaysia to win the Sultan Azian Shah Cup in 2009, was famous as a ‘drag flicker’ and also for converting penalty corners. Capitalizing on the hockey scoring technique, Shaad decided to name his biopic Flicker Singh.
A source revealed, “The makers were thinking of different names and finally hit upon Flicker Singh. They thought it was the ideal title for the film.”
Based on Sandeep Singh's famous 'drag flicker' Shaad decided to name his biopic Flicker Singh.
Singer-turned actor Diljit made his Bollywood debut in Udta Punjab opposite Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan. His performance bagged him the Filmfare Best Debut Award. He was also critically acclaimed for his role in Philauri earlier this year opposite Anushka Sharma. Though the singer is just two films old in Bollywood, he is very popular with filmmakers. Hence, it was no surprise when Diljit was approached by Shaad for the biopic. Flicker Singh will be Diljit’s first solo hero film..
Chitrangda Singh, who was last seen in a special appearance in Munna Michael this August, will be co-producing the film along with Sony TV. The gorgeous actress, who last week scorched the catwalk as the showstopper for designer Neha Agarwal at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Fall Edition, had always wanted to be an independent producer. Flicker Singh marks her debut as a filmmaker. It is not known if Chitrangda has an acting role too in the film which goes on the floors by this year end and is slated to release in 2018.
