Sanjay Dutt’s life, with all its ups and downs, is like something out of a tragic novel and naturally, there is no shortage of plot twists and reach-for-the-tissue-box moments. Losing his mother and then his first wife to cancer, struggling with severe drug addiction, surviving jail… there isn’t much this Bollywood veteran hasn’t seen. And while he’s been tough, taking it all on the chin, his weakness evidently is his young children -Shahraan & Iqra. It’s not easy to face the fact that one’s father is in jail, and this reality has clearly upset Dutt a great deal. Speaking about what his family went through during his incarceration in Pune's Yerawada Central Jail, he points out that children nowadays are very smart. His kids didn’t quite buy the story that he was away from home.
It’s not easy to face the fact that one’s father is in jail, and this reality has clearly upset Dutt a great deal. Speaking about what his family went through during his incarceration in Pune's Yerawada Central Jail, he points out that children nowadays are very smart. His kids didn’t quite buy the story that he was away from home at work. In fact, they would insist that their mom Maanayata call up dad so they could chat with him. It was left to her to come up with creative excuses such as that he was away shooting in the mountains where there was no network available. The once a fortnight call that he was allowed by the jail authorities, was one he treasured as he connected with his beloved children, Shahran and Iqra.
Knowing Dutt and his penchant for telling it like it is, he is waiting for them to grow up so he can share every painful detail of his life with his children, minus the excuses. We think they will love him even more for it…
