Are the conspiracy-seekers reading too much into a line missing from a song…? ‘Govinda hai hero aur Madhuri hai heroine,’ is the line in question which does not appear in the new version of the ’90s song ‘Tan tana tan…’, from Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film, Judwaa 2. And it is being suggested that Varun was behind the chopping of this line from the song, given the long-standing fracas between the ‘80s actor, and Varun and his father David Dhawan!
Govinda has never made a secret of his bitterness that David apparently ignored him completely once his career was in decline – after working together with him in no less than 17 films during his heyday. Obviously hurting and in no mood to hide it, Govinda has gone on record to say, “When I asked David to make the 18th film with me, he took my subject and titled it Chashme Baddoor and cast Rishi Kapoor in it. Then I asked him to put me as a guest appearance. He didn't do that too. After that, I didn't meet him for some years. I kept requesting him to take at least one shot with me so that it could be my 18th film with him. But I don't know what he had in his mind.”
To top this, Varun has ironically been dubbed a new age Govinda for his all-round comic timing, dancing and performing skills. This hasn’t gone down well with the ‘original’ either. “How can he (Varun) be like me? To become Govinda, he needs to be innocent, uneducated and a poor village boy. Varun is already a son of a director. In the last six years, he hasn't done more than two films with his father, whereas I did 17 films with his father.”
Govinda, who has found it extremely difficult to find work in the industry – some say due to his own personal issues – has fallen foul of his one-time close associate, Salman Khan as well. Here again he uses one stone to hit out at both Khan and Dhawan… “Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan both have a body like Salman Khan. But they can't say it. If they call themselves as Salman Khan, then they won't get films. They can't afford to be against Khan. This is how the filmy world works.”
It could well have been a bid to avoid any further controversy that all mention of Govinda has been edited out of the Judwaa 2 number completely!
