His look as the brave but beaten Maharawal Ratan Singh in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmavati, has already fired the imagination. However, Shahid Kapoor could just have a bigger surprise in store after all the heat and dust of this period film abates… Word has it that the actor has given the nod to Shree Narayan Singh’s next. Singh made waves with his recent directorial, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. The unusual premise and deft direction of this entertainer-with-a-message found favour with audiences. It’s only natural that expectations are now growing with news that the director and Shahid are coming together for a social entertainer, to be produced by T-Series and KriArj Entertainment.

Singh sounds smitten and honoured to be working with Shahid, as he mentions his films like Kaminey, Jab We Met, Haider and Udta Punjab, which saw Kapoor prove his mettle as an actor. The actor’s undeniable star presence is an additional draw for the director, who is making no secret of his yearning to work with Shahid.

While the concept is being closely kept under wraps and is yet untitled, Prernaa Arora of KriArj Entertainment is gushing over how she loved the script and shared the story idea with Shahid, who immediately agreed to do the film. “We really enjoyed making Toilet… together earlier and know that Shree Narayan Singh’s sensibilities as a filmmaker have given us the confidence that we have another winner on our hands.” Equal, if not more, praise is heaped on the leading man, whom she dubs, “one of the industry's finest actors,” who would do complete justice to the role.
