What’s bigger news than yesterday’s thrilling media announcement of Bollywood making a sporting biopic of Kapil Dev leading India to its first World Cup victory at Lord’s in 1983?
The date when this film will release!
While Bollywood sources say that filmmaker Kabir Khan, who will helm this prestigious project, has chosen 2019 for his film’s release, Peeping Moon.com has come up with more or less the exact date.
A sources tell us that the yet untitled biopic will release during the ICC World Cup 2019 which will be hosted by England and Wales between May 30 and July 15 that year. Ten Test-playing nations will compete in the ODI championship. Kabir Khan’s film will make the ICC’s extra innings.
It is learned that Kabir Khan has planned a mega release for the film during the 2019 World Cup as it complements the spirit of India’s 1983 victory. That without a doubt was India’s finest moment in sporting history and pictures of a beaming Kapil Dev holding the World Cup triumphantly at Lord’s after beating Clive Lloyd’s West Indies on June 25, 1983 still live on in people’s memories.
The source also revealed that Kabir Khan’s film will be shot on real locations. Of that historic victory, the former Indian captain and great all-rounder Kapil Dev said at yesterday’s press conference, “It was not easy to handle the squad of 1983. Try, but you’ll find it difficult to get such characters across India.”
Kapil’s Devils (as they were called) on that 1983 team included Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Kirti Azad, Yashpal Sharma, K Srikkanth, Roger Binny, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Sandeep Patil, Syed Kirmani, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sunil Valson.
The casting for the biopic has already begun and some main characters have been shortlisted. However, Kabir Khan has yet to zero in on the rest of the cast. “This will take some more time,” the source added, “but the filmmaker will be ready by end of this year.”
