Diwali has come 10 days earlier. Sanjay Leela Bhansali provided the fireworks, the sparkle and glitter to the festive season the country is slipping into with the release of Padmavati’s trailer just now.

With a touch of drama, the showman director chose a specific time for its release. He picked 1.03 pm because history records this was the specific time in 1303 AD that Rawal Ratan Singh first waged war with Allaudin Khilji.

These two memorable characters in the Bollywood period drama are being played by Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh respectively. And their Rani Padmini, who the former is married to and the latter covets, is Deepika Padukone.

The trailer, quite simply, is mind-blowing. It’s soul-stirring. And heart-thumping. Remember the war scenes of Troy and Gladiator? Well, the best of Hollywood with Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe put together can’t match Bhansali.

There is passion and longing and wonder in Rawal Ratan Singh’s eyes, confusion, love and fear in Rani Padmini’s face, and the crazed, murderous expression of a caged wild animal in Allaudin Khilji’s.

The sets are as majestic as they are colossal, the costumes look like they have leaped out of history books, the forts and their ramparts, the battle grounds and palaces take you into a period that time forgot.
Bhansali released it across all digital platforms. And just like the launch of the first three looks of Padmavati featuring Deepika, Shahid and Ranveer – the trailer went into stratosphere!

People are responding to the trailer feverishly, the digital space is afire, and the consensus is that Deepika provides the majesty to the film and Ranveer the menace. Shahid we could do with a little bit more.
