Conspiracy-seekers are seeing it as proof of Shahid Kapur’s insecurity… After the release of the much-awaited trailer of Padmavati, the actor had taken to Instagram to post an image of himself from the film, with the caption: “Still waters run deep. He will rise on the 1st of December. Wait for it. #rajputpride.’’

Now, we could simply take his statement for what it is, or then we could give in to temptation and try to read more into his comment. Fact is, the trailer has had the country oohing and aahing over its scale, its grandeur, the drama, the momentum, the visuals, the music and most of all, its cast. Shahid’s Maharawal Ratan Singh has been admired for his impeccable Rajput warrior mien, the smouldering eyes, the proud pagdi, the graceful bearing. Deepika has expectedly set a million hearts afire as the stunning Padmini, whose beauty extracted too-heavy a price. But again, as expected, it was the raw maniacal energy of Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji, that left the pulses racing and the emotions churning. For many, it’s the image of this egoistic, cruel conqueror preening in front of multiple mirrors, or dipping his face in vermilion on the battlefield, that is the most striking feature of Padmavati.
…Which is why Shahid’s act of sharing a fierce look of himself from the film, with a caption that could be construed to have hidden meaning, is providing grist for gossip mills. To the actor’s credit, though, he had come out strongly against talk of insecurity in the past. “The film is a great opportunity for all three of us. It's a great role for Deepika, a fantastic role for Ranveer and a great one for me… I find it absurd when they say it is a 'two hero' film. The film has three principal characters. These are just ways of creating some kind of material which is exciting at some frivolous level.”
Ouch, nice jab, warrior!
