Akshay Kumar is having a golden run this year. His much-loved film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha shedding light on sanitation issues, manage to break the box-office jinx and became the first superhit film of 2017. The independence day release managed to save the day for the BO when Salman Khan big Eid release Tubelight failed to create any magic on the silver screen.
Interestingly, bhai's film enjoys a successful run on Television. Be it Dabangg or Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the films have a consistent viewership on TV. Films like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Sultan's world TV premiere have shattered TRP records. However, in Tubelight's case, Salman's humongous fan following showed no love. Khan's film only managed 10,261 impressions as per statistics released by BARC. In comparison, Akshay's TEPK that fared better and got 10,925 (000s) impressions!
For the uninitiated, Zee TV acquired the telecast rights of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha at 75 crores. Though the film was first premiered across satellite channels on DD National on September 10, which happens to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, on whose Swacch Bharat ideologies TEPK was loosely based.
The BARC numbers hold significance as 2017 has been out and out Akshay Kumar's year. His first release, Jolly LLB 2 (in February) also fetched great TRPs - second only to Dangal, with a TVR of 4.3!
With Salman's Tiger Hai Zinda gearing to roar soon, this film might help bhaijaan belt out the same numbers for him as his previous successful outings.
Meanwhile, Salman is also busy focussing on his popular reality TV show Bigg Boss 11. Before the latest season kicked off, rumours were rife that makers of the controversial show are keen to get Akki on board as the host but towards the end retained Sallu. Reason being, Khiladi Kumar chose to helm a comedy show, The Great Indian Challenge.
