The ‘feel-good’ feeling is in the air… and we’re not just talking about the festive spirit. Both the films set to clash on the big Diwali Friday - Secret Superstar and Golmaal Again - are carrying positive reports. This indicates that their respective superstar backers – Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn - will most likely be celebrating a very happy Diwali.
Trade pundits are predicting that the two films will rake in a combined collection of approximately Rs.200-250 crore. That is a sizeable improvement from last year’s Diwali releases, both of which fizzled out soon like cheap fireworks. While Dharma Productions’ Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) had managed a very modest Rs.78 crore, Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay was a damp squib from word go with an embarrassingly low Rs.20 crore.
It has been a decidedly bleak year for Bollywood so far, and the hits have been far and few between. This makes it all the more imperative that audiences make the most of the long Diwali weekend and catch the latest at the turnstiles. Both films seem to have what it takes!
Golmaal Gains
1. The laugh-a-riot Golmaal series has enjoyed a rip-roaringly good run so far. The franchise has enjoyed the support of both the masses and the classes looking to leave their brain at home. It is naturally being presumed that the fourth instalment will receive a similar reception at the box office.
- Wholesome entertainment is what the film promises, and in these times of lacklustre economy, people could do with a cheering of spirits.
3. The Ajay Devgn-Rohit Shetty pair is a powerful one and, with the support of the rest of the cast, seems set to deliver.
Secret Shine
1. The promo was met with approval; the story of the teenaged Insia setting out to follow her dream of becoming a superstar concealed behind a veil of secrecy, has stirred emotions already.
- Aamir Khan’s publicity blitzkrieg is bound to pay off. From touring the country with the leading lady plugging the film, to holding special screenings for everyone from BJP leader L K Advani, to Sachin Tendulkar, to Ranbir Kapoor, the actor-producer has not lost a single chance to give the film its best chance yet.
3. Again, the Aamir Khan factor is difficult to beat when it comes to being a byword for quality content. His own exacting standards reassure audiences of a fulfilling cinematic experience. That, combined with the promise of good performances, marks the film out as a must-see this Diwali.
Ajay-Aamir, all the best!
