For the first time in her 17-year career, Katrina Kaif is going to be stripped of glamour for a role. This will be in Shree Narayan Singh’s next film. Thrilled with the success of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, he intends to make Batti Gul Meter Chalu on the same simple and socially relevant scale. Katrina’s role will be a female version’s of Akshay Kumar’s in Toilet – that of a gaon ki chori on a social mission. If the issue was open defecation in Toilet, then in Batti Gul co-starring Shahid Kapoor, it will be electricity bills.

Katrina has never been seen in this kind of avatar before. Though the filmmaker has not yet announced Katrina’s involvement with his film, Peeping Moon.com has learned that the actress was excited by the narration and is kicked about her role. “It demands a power-packed performance from her,” sources said. “She has one more meeting with the team and then Katrina will be on board.”

This film by Shree Narayan Singh, too, will be based in a small town in Uttar Pradesh. Which means Katrina will have to deliver dialogues in a UP accent. She will have to undergo extensive training with a dialogue coach for this. That apart, she will be also dressed simply. The actress will have to do quite a few workshops for this de-glam role which appears tailor-made for her and which several other A-list actresses got to know of and wanted to do.

Another first for Katrina will be her pairing with Shahid Kapoor in Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Bollywood is looking forward to this fresh pairing to see what sort of chemistry exists between the two actors. Katrina will next be seen in Thugs of Hindostan with Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan and Aanand L Rai’s next film, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. She will also be reuniting with Salman Khan in Tiger Zinda Hai which will release in December
