Akshay Kumar, who was angrily condemned by Naxalites in the past for extending monetary assistance to families of policemen and paramilitary jawans killed in the line of duty, continues to be indefatigable and fearless when it comes to showing his respect to such men who have been martyred.
This time, as a Diwali gift to 103 families of men from the police, army and other paramilitary forces in Maharashtra that died on duty fighting Naxalites, terrorists, anti-nationals and other criminal elements, Akshay sent cash cheques, sweets and books with a motivating letter written in heartfelt Marathi to Inspector General of Police, Western Maharashtra, Vishwas Nagre Patil.
IG Patil reports that the families were in tears when police teams called on them with small tokens of appreciation of their own and Akshay’s gifts of gratitude on Diwali day. In his touching letter written in Marathi, Akshay wrote to the families of the martyrs…
Hon'ble Sir / Madam
The sacrifice of that valiant son of yours is the highest for the country. All Indians are proud of him. I am sure that this Diwali you will recall the memories of your love and affection for him.
I know it’s a time of grief for you and your family, but I'll pray to God that on this New Year he gives you strength and patience.
I would like to send some sweets and books for the kids. I request you to please accept it with love.
Always your debtor,
Akshay Kumar
According to IG Patil, Akshay meant the money to be used for the education of any children in these families. In grateful response, the son of one such martyr appreciated the actor’s thoughtfulness and generosity with a video made with the Kolhapur Police’s help. In this, he thanks Akshay and says the pursuance of his education would not be just a dream now.
