Shatrughan Sinha’s social media team must have had their eardrums split by a very loud and angry “Khamosh!!!” No, we do not think the veteran actor could have been in a good mood after the recent gaffe on Twitter. Shatrughan ‘Shotgun’ Sinha had used Twitter to send his birthday wishes across to legendary comedian-actor Kader Khan. “Remembering the great actor, entertainer and dialogue writer Kader Khan on his birthday. Love you, miss you and wish you on this day,” he wrote. Lovely sentiment. However, instead of using his picture with Kader Khan, what was posted was a photograph of Amitabh Bachchan with himself!
Naturally, the Twitterati refused to spare him. A flood of memes followed. Some of the more notable ones included a picture of Sonakshi Sinha with the comment, “Remember legendary actress ‘Reena Roy’ today,” and another which showed a picture of Rajnath Singh with the line, “Remembering legendary actor & director Alan Rickman aka Severus Snape.’’ Ouch!
Realising the gaffe, the political side of Sinha was roused as he quickly tried work his way out of the embarrassment. Determined to justify the pic of himself with Amitabh Bahchan, he tried explaining that both he and Amitabh had worked with Kader Khan in the past. Huh??? His tweet, “Humble submission - myself and Amitabh Ji have worked - great Kadar Khan @ obliged on his contributions on both individual & professional front,” didn’t really win him any brownie points!
The virtual world is nasty at the best of times, but absolutely ruthless when it comes to star gaffes. Remember how Shilpa Shetty was tirelessly trolled for misinterpreting George Orwell‘s Animal Farm to be a children’s book? And how Katrina Kaif was mocked when she was announced as the winner of Smita Patil Memorial Award? She must have given her publicity team a proper dressing-down after that one! And we are betting Priyanka Chopra sounded out her stylist roundly for the T-shirt she wore for a cover shoot which made fun of refugees.
Like we said at the start, Shatrughan Sinha’s peeps must have had hell to pay too!
