When Hrithik Roshan took to Twitter to wish his fans on the occasion of Chhath Puja, it came as something of a surprise. Chhath Puja, an ancient festival dedicated to the Sun, does not have the popularity of Diwali, but it is big among the Bhojpuri community in Bihar and Nepal. And that’s just what Hrithik is discovering as he preps to play Bhojpuri mathematician Anand Kumar in his biopic, Super 30.
The actor, who is prepping for his role, is in the process of learning about the rich and zestful Bhojpuri language, culture and festivities – and he sounds impressed. His tweet on the occasion of Chhath Puja read, “Every year I would see huge devotional crowds on the beach. This year I understand the significance of Chhath Puja better! Happy Chhath Puja to you all.”

Anand Kumar must be pleased. The mathematician with a difference, who coaches economically backward students for the IIT entrance examinations, has not made a secret of his delight that his life is to be portrayed onscreen by Hrithik Roshan. When Hrithik had given the nod to the biopic, Kumar had stated, “I am happy that Hrithik will play me because he is the best choice for the role. His dedication towards his work and the kind of versatility he exhibits as an actor is very inspiring. Being a rooted and passionate person myself, I feel that he will bring an emotional depth to my life on screen. I am excited to see Hrithik as Anand Kumar essaying my emotional journey.”
As Hrithik preps for this unusual role, we hear he is being coached along by Kumar, who has been an intrinsic part of the entire project, right from its inception. The maths wiz has revealed that he has been kept in the loop regarding everything connected with Super 30 so far, and is amply satisfied with the way things are shaping up. The attempt is to tell the heart-warming story as authentically as possible, and Kumar admits that even though Hrithik looks nothing like him, he will capture the spirit of his character perfectly.
A Bhojpuri tutor who looks like Hrithik… We would start loving Maths too!
