Everybody who saw Ittefaq which released today is eager to know why the producers of this thriller, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and BR Films, thanked Ranbir Kapoor in the credits. Audiences fleetingly thought that perhaps Ranbir had a guest appearance in Ittefaq. Like he did in Aamir Khan’s PK in 2014. But that wasn’t the case. And most patrons left the auditoriums wondering.
Peeping Moon.com is in a position to break this suspense. Ranbir was thanked because it was he who recommended Ittefaq’s script to KJo and urged him to make this film. Nobody saw that coming. Ittefaq’s producers are grateful to the actor. Audiences believe that this Ittefaq with Siddharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna is an official remake of the late Yash Chopra’s 1969 Ittefaq starring Rajesh Khanna, Nanda and Iftekhar. And many started looking out for Ranbir and wondering whose role he was playing.
This was not part of the suspense built around the film by its producers since Ittefaq’s trailer was launched in the first week of October. For a month in the countdown leading to the film’s release today, the producers kept from entertaining people’s anticipation of what was the suspense in the film. All that its teasers said was “Two Murders, Two Suspects, Two Versions” and kept audiences guessing. The stars of the film were ordered (well, strictly told) not to do any media interactions, give interviews, appear on TV reality shows, do activities at shopping malls, etc. in relation to the film where they might inadvertently let out the suspense so painstakingly built up.
Everybody knows that promotions are an important part of a film’s marketing strategy. But for Ittefaq the producers wanted the audience to keep guessing who the killer behind the two murders was. So there were absolutely no promotions in October. This no-marketing technique worked in favour of the film because it got people excited and took their curiosity to another level. There wasn’t even a preview show held for the media a day in advance as is the practice in Bollywood. And Ittefaq opened everywhere this morning in regular shows. With Ranbir Kapoor being thanked in the credits which led to another round of suspense. Well, now you also know who to thank if you too enjoyed this thriller.
