Aishwarya had her cake and ate it too!

Producer Srishti Arya nee Behl tweeted an image of the Ash doll cake, with the caption, “So my genius baker sister Tania Behl makes an entirely edible dress as a cake!!” And then Abhishek Bachchan replies, “And your niece absolutely loved it.” He was, of course, referring to little Aaradhya being smitten by the cake which was a replica of her gorgeous mommy Ash, in that famous powder blue ballgown at Cannes.

For those wondering about the connection between the Bachchans and the Behls, they go back a long way to the Seventies, when producer Ramesh Behl worked with Amitabh Bachchan in films like Pukar and Kasme Vaade. Today the relationship endures with Srishti and her brother Goldie Behl (who is married to the lovely Sonali Bendre), being firm friends of Abhishek. And so it was entirely fitting that when Ash had her birthday on November 1, she should have herself a one-of-a-kind cake created by Tania Behl.

The effect is charming in its recreation in fondant and icing, of the Michael Cinco gown that Ash had worn on the red carpet, leaving watchers floored. Who can forget Ash’s Disney princess moment at Cannes? That icy blue off-the-shoulder dress covered with beads and embroidered silver leaves and a ball-worthy voluminous skirt, will go down in the annals of red carpet dressing from the French Riviera.

Cinco had raved about Aishwarya, naming her as “one of those dynamic world personalities” who he had always wanted to dress up. “Her beauty is ethereal and timeless...qualities that the Michael Cinco brand epitomises. It helps that her advocacies make her always relevant and in tune with the times,” he had maintained. The Michael Cinco style, he maintained, is fashioned to transcend time and seasons.

This time, it transcended fabric too – the delicious vanilla and chocolate flavoured cake, complete with layers of edible fabric, must have hit the taste-buds too!
