Shilpa Shetty was one of the lucky guests to attend the garden event at the British High Commission to host the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall. The Prince struck the right note, declaring, “My mehbooba and I are delighted to be back in India.” And as the royal couple concluded the last leg of their Commonwealth Tour, there was more warmth in store…

“It was wonderful to see his enthusiasm and love for India,” said Shilpa, who was the only Bollywood star at the event. And she wasn’t there for star value either – apparently the actress, who works extensively with the British Asian Trust, was there to discuss prospects of better cultural ties between the two nations. We are impressed!

Quizzed about what they chatted about, Shilpa reveals that the royal couple took keen interest in yoga and tried to learn more about its benefits as they spoke to her. Apparently besides discussing yoga at length, they also spoke of ways it could be popularised in the UK. “Prince Charles also spoke about extending support to my foundation that champions the cause of girl child education. He was so encouraging of the initiative,” said a visibly thrilled Shetty.

Incidentally, Shilpa had been similarly floored when she had had tea with the Prince, along with her Rajasthan Royal Indian Premier League (IPL) team. Back in 2009, Shilpa had posted on her blog, “I must say he (Prince Charles) still has such a sparkle in his eyes, so charming, he had a conversation with everyone in the room… I complimented him on his charity work in India and the awareness he's spreading on issues pertaining to global warming. He said the Indian media should give it more attention.”

And it’s not just all sweet words - Shilpa Shetty had donated half a million pounds to Prince Charles' charitable trust after her team Rajasthan Royals won the British Asian Cup! “The proceeds of yesterday’s match went to his (Charles) charitable trust and we donated nearly half a million to it. The team and I went ahead and met His Royal Highness Prince Charles for tea yesterday.” How very splendid, my deah!
