Karan Johar is all set to wear a new hat. Bollywood’s premier filmmaker and television’s top notch impresario will from December be an RJ for the FM radio station Ishq 104.8. Karan’s RJ role will not be that of spinning music tracks. But the man Bollywood credits with launching and nursing more young talent than anybody else will now be a sort of Love Guru on the radio station.
What it means is that RJ KJo will be live on air offering hope, advice and sympathy to the country’s lovelorn who call in seeking his help. It will be an interactive show aptly titled ‘Calling Karan’ and will be heard in all metropolitan cities including Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata where FM Ishq 104.8 is available. This is the first time that Karan, who otherwise has run the most successful Indian celebrity chat show on television and delightfully compered every major Bollywood event in India and abroad, will be playing the role of an RJ.
In the past, Bollywood celebs like Sonu Nigam, Salim Merchant, Shaan, Asha Bhosle, Anil Kapoor and Satish Kaushik have all briefly been radio jockeys. On screen, Sanjay Dutt and Vidya Balan have played the RJ’s character too. A press conference to launch ‘Calling Karan’ is being held in a suburban five-star tomorrow where Karan, perhaps in the RJ’s avatar, is expected to give a live demo of his radio skills.
That the filmmaker has immense experience in dealing with broken hearts is known in Bollywood. He’s played matchmaker Cupid for several young stars finding themselves hopelessly in love and has also offered a shoulder to aching hearts and patched up relationships that looked like they were breaking over the years. Efforts to contact Karan Johar and seek a confirmation on the show and his new role proved to be futile. Watch this space for more…
