Even as the heat gets too much in the kitchen, so to speak, the action shifts to the relatively calmer climes of Sharjah! Apparently, the Padmavati trio, comprising Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, will be seen promoting their film together in Sharjah at the Asiavision Movie Awards 2017.
Managing director of Asiavision, Nissad Syed confirmed the news saying, “It is our absolute honour to have Padmavati talents attend the Asiavision Movie Awards because these stars have pan-Indian appeal. Their popularity transcends languages and geography. Apart from attending awards, they will also meet the local press the day before in Dubai. So it’s a double delight with the movie promotions and the awards night. Dancer Asha Sharath will also put together a dance performance weaving in Padmavati elements on stage.” Also in the pipeline is the unveiling of a teaser for a new song from the film. Picking up trophies at the awards night will be Deepika who will be felicitated as the Global Icon of the Year, while filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be awarded for his contributions to Indian cinema.
Meanwhile on home ground, the team has had to bow down to the intensifying pressure of the protestors. And now, apparently the team has been left with no recourse but to pre-screen the film for a few members of Akhand Rajputana Sangh.
The screening is scheduled to be held between November 15 and 18. Viewing the film, which has faced a barrage of protest for its alleged distortion of history, will be a special committee comprising members from the Rajput community, along with literati and historians. Members of the community are keen to watch the film before it releases, so they can express their reservations in case of any misrepresentation, or then give it the go-ahead if it does not distort history in any way. Move over CBFC, this is the committee that wields the real power for now.
