A few observations about the upcoming sequel to the film that gave us Alia, Varun and Sidharth…
The first poster of Student of the Year 2 is out and Tiger Shroff is sitting cool and looking smug to have made the cut. “Thank you @karanjohar sir and @punitdmalhotra sir for giving me admission into the coolest school ever! #StudentOfTheYear2 #InItToWinIt #SOTY2 @DharmaMovies,” the actor tweeted.

Karan Johar, who seems to be announcing new films every other day, sounded gung-ho as well. He shared the first look of his production on Twitter, saying, “The FRANCHISE continues!!!! The college opens its doors to a new Student! @iTIGERSHROFF #StudentOfTheYear2 directed by @punitdmalhotra”
So, who will the lucky gal be? Buzz goes it could well be Bhavna and Chunkey Pandey’s pretty daughter, Ananya who will land the coveted female lead. Ananya is a close friend of Suhana Khan, and whispers about her launch have been growing since some time.
If ol’ Tiger has his way though, it would be his fave gal, Disha Patani. Yes, the same PYT of M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story and Kung Fu Yoga, in whose company Tiger is constantly spotted, and who he supposedly wanted to move out of his parents’ home for… Back in 2016 when the film had been announced, Tiger had been asked who he would like opposite him in SOTY2, he had replied modestly, “I’m nobody to choose really.” Wonder if ‘Karan sir’ will take the hint, though. After all, Tiger did manage to bring Disha on board for Baaghi 2, right?
Interestingly, both Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor had been touted to make their big Bollywood debut with SOTY 2. However, it wasn’t mean to be – Sara chose Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, while Janhvi’s Dharma Productions’ debut, Dhadak was announced officially five days ago.
We see the SOTY shield that Tiger is reclining against and it’s clear that he has already won his award – a Karan Johar film is just what the lad needs to give his career the boost it requires. Last year he already spoke about being “very happy, very grateful,” about being signed on. “There's a lot of pressure in me to take this franchise forward, and I’m very happy Karan sir thought I was worthy,” he declared.
The film will be directed by Puneet D Malhotra, the I Hate Luv Storys filmmaker, who last directed the Kareena Kapoor-Imran Khan starrer Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.
Sporting ripped jeans, a military jacket and a stubble, we can’t help wondering how long the lad didn’t shave to allow that facial hair to sprout! Back in 2014, Tiger himself had revealed, “It's embarrassing, but my facial hair growth is very less. In fact, I haven't shaved for the longest time.”
