As an encouraging co-star – leave aside smitten and supportive girlfriend – Deepika Padukone cannot be faulted. That she thinks very highly of her reported beau Ranveer Singh’s talent, is a given. Now we see that her belief in his talent is enormous.
Of the three films the pair has featured in - Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and the yet to release Padmavati – she would choose Ranveer as Ram… “Boyish, young, innocent, playful, sensual… a young romance,” over his warrior act as Bajirao. “But at the same time, I know what value he has brought to Bajirao or the value that he's added to Khilji. Because no other industry today can do that,” she adds.
Quizzed on whether Ranveer's performance as Alauddin Khilji would be his best performance, she maintains, “Yes and no. Because I don't know what more is in store for him. He's capable of so much. He has so much more to explore. Is it going to be his best till date? I hope so. In fact, I can't even say yes or no because I have not seen his work. We've not worked together in the film. That's why I feel like they've shot completely different film which him. I don't know what he has done. But I've seen what the audience has seen, which is the trailer. Yes, I hope for his sake that it's his best till date.” Give you all sorts of romantic feels, doesn’t it, her unshakeable faith in him?

The trailer of Padmavati, it might be recalled, had broken the record held by Bahubali, by registering over 15 million views in less than 24 hours. It had led to Ranveer, who is deliberately lying low as far as the film’s promotions go, penning an open letter to his “seniors, peers, friends in the media and the trade, and most of all our beloved audience…” He had written, “Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to each and every one of you who has been so generous in effusively showering love and appreciation for our trailer. To witness this avalanche of praise across the board is unprecedented and overwhelming. It’s very rare…and very, very humbling.
“It’s a result of the blood, sweat and tears that our team has poured into this mammoth effort. Sanjay Sir, my crazy genius, the master craftsman…has fought, suffered and sacrificed for this film – the success of this trailer is testament to his sheer tenacity and iron will…
“I assure you that what you’ve seen thus far is just a tiny fraction of what this film has to offer… With love, Ranveer.”
We so believe him!
