After Varun Dhawan, will the Traffic cops book Ranveer Singh next?

Is Ranveer Singh holding his breath? The actor, whose film Padmavati is stuck in a nasty controversy, must be waiting for the Traffic Police’s knock. Two days ago he launched a new Adidas store on Linking Road in Bandra by getting onto the roof of his car and bringing traffic to a standstill. The actor’s delighted fans blocked the road and police had to be called to restore traffic along with law and order.

Everyone went home happy from the Adidas event. But today, after what happened between poor Varun Dhawan and the Traffic Police, Ranveer must be wondering whether he’s going to be the next Bollywood star to be rapped on the knuckles by the intolerant Traffic cops. Varun, who made a fan’s day by obligingly taking a selfie with her at a signal, was dismayed to be called out by the Traffic Police in a censorious tweet.

What happened was this. Varun, whose car was at a red light, spotted a fan in an auto alongside struggling to take a picture. Ever the hero, the young actor gallantly reached out and took the phone from her hands. He then leaned out of his car, she leaned out of the auto, and before the light turned green – Varun clicked a selfie of them both. Unfortunately, the Traffic Police took exception. It chastised the actor for risking his life and the lives of his admirer and others on the road with this selfie “adventure”.

Telling Varun that this stunt worked on the silver screen but not on the road, the Traffic Police added they were booking the “youth icon” and an E-Challan would reach him soon. Ominously, they threatened Varun that next time they would be harsher. Varun apologized immediately on Twitter. But he also told the Traffic Police that he didn’t want to hurt the sentiments of a fan and took the selfie only because their vehicles were at a signal and not moving.

Now, sources told Peeping Moon.com, the Traffic Police are looking at video coverage of the Adidas store launch to see whether Ranveer too violated any laws by getting on top of his car to greet his fans on a busy Mumbai thoroughfare. The sources wished the police was not so harsh with Bollywood especially when there were other traffic violators getting away with daredevil road stunts. Besides which, when the police needed ambassadors for their public awareness campaigns, it was always Bollywood that sprang to the task.
