That charming ol’ phrase about the cat who ate a hundred mice before leaving on a pious pilgrimage… Somehow it comes to mind, as we hear that B-town’s trickiest loverboy, whom none of the industry beauties has been able to pin down yet, is supposedly poised for an arranged marriage! Now that is something we never did expect to hear in our lifetime!

Buzz has it that Ranbir Kapoor and mommy Neetu Kapoor, were in London recently to meet a prospective bride. The girl in question hails from a business family and the match had apparently been made by one of Neetu’s close friends. What’s more, the meeting supposedly went off extremely well, as both the couple and their families took to each other immediately. Who woulda thunk??

It’s actually not all that surprising. Ranbir’s protective mama has never quite warmed to his B-town girlfriends, whether it was Deepika or Katrina, leave alone the divorced and uninhibited Mahira, who must have given Mrs. Kapoor nightmares! We suspect it was the recent brouhaha, as her darling boy and the Pakistani beauty were papped smoking outside his hotel in New York, that has spurred Neetu on to take action before things get out of control. Clearly, an arranged marriage safely decided upon by the elders is her way of ensuring her precious son does not take any disastrous steps that could taint the family name.

And this time, she appears to have worn Ranbir’s defences down – we weren’t expecting this player to actually agree to meet a suitable girl for marriage purposes! But evidently, he has agreed to his mother’s wish to settle down and tie the knot with a suitable, non-industry girl. In the past too there had been reports of matches being made in Delhi, however, nothing had come of it.

On the surface of it, Ranbir is pooh-poohing the news of his arranged marriage proposal. He claims that there is nothing like it on the cards and that neither his parents nor his grandmother have put any pressure on him to tie the knot. “I will marry the woman I am in love with. It is as simple as that.”

…Not if Mama has her way, we suspect!
