Legacy & a cricket team of kids…What Priyanka wants!

Trust Priyanka Chopra to tee off her address at the Penguin Annual Lecture on ‘Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Chasing a Dream’ by pointing out that she hated the term ‘glass ceiling’! The actress, who has made her mark in the entertainment arena in the West as well, explained that it “puts my ambition in a box,” before adding that all she wanted to do was chase her dreams. “It doesn't mean that glass ceilings don't exist. It does. But I want to be more than that. I got where I am today by being fierce, fearless and flawed,” she pointed out. But then we knew that about her already, didn’t we!

For those looking for a point-wise guide on how exactly to succeed in life, she provided a blueprint as well. Among the must-dos are being true to oneself, learning from mistakes, exploring new opportunities and not compromising on one's dreams. Other rules she shared were, “Don't take yourself too seriously; always be kind and compassionate; and never forget where you come from. Never forget your roots.”

Sharing deeper insights into her game-plan, she revealed, “I want to be like water. I want to be able to be put into anything and take the shape of it. My biggest dream is to leave behind a legacy.” Discussing this legacy which she is creating in Hollywood and Bollywood, she maintained, “I am really happy that the Indian film industry, and India as a country, is happy about my success and have appreciated me. I have only got love, no envy.”

Other points she touched upon were the different cultures in the US and India, the issue of payment disparity and the racism she faced in the US when she studied there as a teenager. She would be taunted by comments like ‘Can you smell the curry?’ when people walked past her. She touched upon the Padmavati controversy as well, revealing that she had called both Sanjay Bhansali and Deepika Padukone “and told them I stand by them and I hoped that the film could be seen by people.”

And in the midst of talking about glass ceilings and creating legacies, a footnote devoted to love… Stating that she was extremely happy for her friends Megan Markle (who is to be married to Prince Harry) and Anushka Sharma (who married Virat Kohli recently), she added that when it comes to her own love life, she is still looking for the right man. “I want to have a cricket team of children...But it has to be someone who appreciates me for all I have and achieved by being my true self.”

Girls, you might want to add that one to the rule list too!
