In March last year, Prateik Babbar had laughingly revealed, “All my energy and focus is towards acting. That’s the only thing I want to do as of now. I am not looking for love, and frankly, I don’t have time for it either. Right now, I will say I am petrified of love.”

Well, he has evidently done a rethink. The 31-year-old actor is prepping to take the plunge with his girlfriend Sanya Sagar! They will get engaged on January 22 in her hometown, Lucknow, though there is no clarity yet on the wedding date. However, it is good news for the actor, who has battled drug abuse and depression and come out stronger.

The only child of actor-politician Raj Babbar and the late actress Smita Patil, Prateik has been shockingly honest about his battle with drugs. In a tell-all newspaper column, he had written about his battle with drug addiction which had started when he was just 13. Finally, an overdose made him sit up and “take note of the monster (he) had become.” Encouraged by his family, he sought professional help and managed to turn his life around.

His impending engagement is more positive proof of his pro-life choice. He and Sanya have been dating since early 2017, although they have been friends for the past eight years. She is the daughter of a politician and hails from Lucknow, while Prateik’s father, Raj Babbar is also a politician belonging to Indian National Congress. Babbar Sr. has been a three-time member of the Lok Sabha and a two-time member of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament.

The engagement in Lucknow is touted to be a close-knit affair and neither of the families is spilling too many details at this point. Prateik evidently wants to keep his personal life out of the limelight.

The 1990-born Sanya returned from London last year after completing her studies. A Bachelor’s from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Fashion Communication, Mumbai, she has also worked as an Assistant Director.

Prateik has Baaghi 2 coming up for release this year, starring Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani.
