A couple of years ago, Sonam Kapoor was becoming something of the poster girl for biopics. She had played a small but impactful role of Biro in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Of course, it paled in comparison to Neerja, the biographical thriller on the real-life head purser Neerja Bhanot, who died trying to help save 359 of the 379 passengers and crew on board during a hostage attack on a Pan Am flight. At that point, Sonam had shared that she was more than open to doing more biopics…“Why not? There are so many interesting stories to tell, so many lives that have been lived. If something interesting comes up, I’ll do it for sure.”
Last year, Sonam was all animated about playing Amrita Sher-Gil, dubbed India’s answer to Frida Kahlo, in a biopic on the artist. Sonam had stated then, “Yes, I’ve been approached to play Amrita Sher-Gil; it’s a great role. I also have a keen interest in painting and not many know that I can actually paint well. So, let’s see what happens.”

‘What happens’ is a slightly unexpected twist: Sonam is not doing the film at all! Revealing that she is no longer a part of the project, all she has said is, “I’m not doing it anymore.”
Amrita Sher-Gil, born in 1913, was a pre-Independence painter who belonged to a Punjabi Sikh Father and a Hungarian Jewish Mother. Having lived in France and India, she died in 1941. The film was touted to depict Sher-Gil's life, love, friends, and her mentors.
Speculation is rife that it could be Sonam’s impending wedding to beau Anand Ahuja that is behind her pulling out. The wedding, which will see around 300 close friends and family in attendance, is reported to take place this March in a Jodhpur palace. Already pegged to be the event of the year, the bride-to-be clearly has too much on her plate anyway!
