Sushant Singh Rajput’s finickiness may turn out to be Varun Dhawan’s gain. Buzz is that the actor who is busy making Kedarnath was approached by Telugu film writer and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga to do the remake of his 2017 super hit Arjun Reddy. The film, that became a cult in Tollywood and received rave reviews, is about a brilliant young surgeon who begins to self-destruct after his girlfriend is forced to marry another man. The character is also deeply problematic and has anger management issues. Sushant, who was reportedly given a private screening of Arjun Reddy in Mumbai by Vanga, was uncomfortable with that. He was of the opinion that the protagonist with his negative shades might be detrimental to his image.

Now comes the news that Varun, whose performance in Badlapur (2015) had impressed Vanga, has been approached to do Arjun Reddy. His character in Badlapur is said to be similar to the protagonist in Arjun Reddy. Besides, what weighed in Varun’s favour is the fact that his solo 2014 blockbuster Main Tera Hero with Ileana D’Cruz was a successful remake of the 2011 Telugu super hit Kandireega. However, before this the film was reportedly offered to Ranveer Singh who evinced keen interest in doing Arjun Reddy. But Ranveer, who has the Kapil Dev World Cup biopic 1983 and Rohit Shetty’s Simmba in hand, had date issues and could not undertake Arjun Reddy. Now it looks like the Bollywood remake of the Tollywood hit will be made by Sajid Nadiadwala.
Varun is likely to do another Tollywood remake. This time, if rumours are right, it will be by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The filmmaker who saw the 2017 Telugu romantic comedy Ninnu Koriis said to eager to remake it in Hindi. Varun would do the role of Telugu star Nani. If Bhansali were to attempt the remake, he would collaborate with Telugu producers Kona Film Corporation and DVV Entertainment on this.
