The remake Sonam is dying to do…

If Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will soon reportedly reprise the legendary Nargis’s role in the classic Bollywood remake of Raat Aur Din, well we might just see Sonam get into the equally fabulous Waheeda Rehman’s role. The film, no prizes for guessing, is Guide, the 1965 romantic drama by Vijay Anand, which is considered one of the finest films of all time.

Talking about remakes which are the flavour of the season in Bollywood, Sonam revealed, “I would love to do a Guide. Rosie from Guide is such a fantastic character. She’s strong, feminine, lovely — all at the same time. And Waheeda (Rehman) aunty looked beautiful and she was excellent in the film. It’s also one of my favourite classics of all times,’’ she stated.

Sonam had recently spoken about how women need to be a lot more out there and make things happen for themselves. “There needs to be a staunch stand for what you believe in. And women need to step up for sure,” she had declared.

We do believe Sonam, backed by her sister Rhea and dad Anil Kapoor, would be in the best position to make her Guide dreams come true. She had recently bought the rights of Govinda, a modern day tale of The Mahabharata penned by Singapore based writer named Krishna Udayasankar. Besides that, she is all set to star in the screen adaptations of two other books — Battle For Bittora and The Zoya Factor. “Both (Battle For Bittora and Govinda) can be made into films, and I’m going to do it,” she had confirmed.
Sonam has come a long way from being written off as merely a fashionista. “People don’t come to me with neurotic roles anymore,” she has pointed out. “Nobody expects me to do a flower pot role. And I love that because I don’t want to waste my time listening to something that’s irrelevant and I wouldn’t do…I’m against ridiculous roles for actresses. At the same time, I’m open to doing a film like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo where I get to work with some amazing commercial directors who give women the gravitas that they deserve.

So, if someone offers me something of that magnitude and dignity, then why not?”

When you can have it all, why say no!
