Guts & Glory: Padmaavat dialogue promos have us stirred!

Two dialogue promos back to back and it is exactly how we imagined Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat to pan out…

Deepika Padukone’s Rani Padmavati is queenly grace and deathly resolve personified as she addresses the women of her court…  “If today our bravehearts attain martyrdom, the enemy shall still not be victorious. Chittor will witness another war, one that is unseen and unheard of. And we women will have to lead from the front. And that shall be the biggest defeat of Alauddin’s life. Padmavati has never feared anything in her life.”

The second, shows Alauddin riding with his massive army towards Chittor as he hollers, “We Khiljis together saw a dream: that one day our flag will fly over the whole world.” Shahid’s reply is more measured and infinitely more powerful: “Tell your Sultan that we Suryavanshis of Mewar have more iron in our chests than has in his sword.”

It’s a battle to the finish… and though legend records how it ends, we look to Bhansali for his rendering of how this beautiful savage tale of bravery and redemption plays out.
Last year, via a video recording, Bhansali had spoken about this project which is very close to his heart… “I've made this film Padmavati with a lot of sincerity, responsibility and hard work. I have always been inspired by Rani Padmavati's story and this film salutes her valour and sacrifice. But because of some rumours, this film has become a subject of controversy.

“The controversy is over the fact that the film has a dream sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji -- something that I have already denied even in writing. Now through this video, I am reiterating that in our film, Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji have no such scene together which hurts anyone’s sentiments.”
The film is scheduled to hit theatres on January 25.
