News had been floating around last year about Anil Kapoor and daughter Sonam coming together for a film, to be directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s sister, Shelly Dhar. Well what do you know, filming starts today! The film is titled Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga (yes, the title of that famous song from Anil Kapoor-starrer 1942: A Love Story) and will feature the Kapoors playing father and daughter.
The director, who has managed this casting coup, reveals that both father and daughter are all nervous and excited as well about sharing screen space in a film for the first time. Anil, she states, is “like a kid, extremely excited about his role,” and is really looking forward to the outing. What’s more, his character sports a look that he hasn’t donned in a while. Ever enthusiastic, he has apparently also brought his own clothes along even though his costumes for the film are already all in place!

Filming will take place at a family house in Patiala, which is the perfect setting for the film, Shelly reveals. “I am shooting entirely at real locations as I want the film to develop as organically as possible. We can’t wait to start rolling now!”
The film also features Rajkummar Rao as Sonam’s love interest, popular TV actress Madhu Malti as Anil’s mother, and also Juhi Chawla, who will join the unit in the first week of February.
Coming back to Anil and Sonam, we do think this daddy will be keeping his pretty and talented daughter on her toes, acting-wise. At the time when the audience was floored by Sonam’s performance in Neerja, and she had also bagged a National award for the same, Anil had not gone into gush mode. Speaking about Sonam’s performance in the film which was based on the heroic deed of a flight attendant, who gave up her life while saving 360 others, the veteran actor had maintained that Sonam still needs to improve a lot. “One might be best actor or actress in the world but he/she has to keep on learning, same goes for Sonam. No matter how much praise she gets for her performance and whatever anyone says, she still has to improve more and more.”
