Box Office Report: Padmaavat fares very well on Day 1 despite protests

Despite widespread protests around cinema halls by various fringe groups in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra; Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat has done fairly well with box office collection.

The film officially released on January 25 and has already collected Rs 19 crore! Padmaavat had a paid preview screening on January 24th and that alone garnered about Rs 5 crore! With a total of Rs 24 crore already in the makers pocket, the film certainly is expected to well in the coming week.

Padmaavat was earlier slated to hit the screens on December 1, 2017. However, mired in controversy for its alleged "misrepresentations" and "distortion of facts" the film's certification was delayed.

The opulent drama is now cleared with a U/A certificate and has a running time of 2.44 hours. Although cleared by the Supreme Court, the film is still banned by some state governments such as Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from being housefull in metro cities, many cinemagoers have also expressed fear of watching the drama in theatre due to widespread disturbances.
