Sure, they are on the same team, but that didn’t stop the irrepressible Virender Sehwag from taking a naughty jibe at the enthusiastic Preity Zinta!
The former Indian batsman, who is part of the Kings Eleven Punjab team in an advisory capacity, was huddled around the table on the first day of the mega auctions, along with the rest of the KXIP management including co-owner, Preity Zinta. Now KXIP seemed absolutely gung-ho as they jumped in to bid for almost every player on the block! And not surprisingly, it was B-town’s Preity Zinta who kept holding up the placard to bid.

This could not pass without comment from Sehwag, who has built up quite a reputation on social media for his pithy witty observations. And he didn’t disappoint when he tweeted, “Ladkiyon ko shopping ka shock hota hai. Preity full on shopping ke mood mein hain. Har cheez khareedni hai.” That was a classic and it received a very warm welcome by the Twitterati. Wonder how PZ will respond to that!
Before the beginning of the auctions, Sehwag, dubbed the Nawab of Najafgarh in his heyday, had shared his strategy for buying players, with his own touch of humour. “Bachpan mein sabji bhi khareedne jaate thhey, toh maa bolti theen theek daam me laana, aur aaj hum aadmi khareed rahe hain! Farak yeh hai, ab owner bolte hain sahi daam mein khareedna," he said.
Incidentally, Zinta who is married to American Gene Goodenough continues to enjoy her stint as co-owner of the team, along with ex-beau Ness Wadia. She was also heard sounding quite excited about their decision to bid a whopping Rs.4 crore for the sixteen-year-old Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Zadran. Preity went on to explain their decision, saying, “It was a joint effort of the coaching and scouting staff. His (Mujeeb) name was always there and he has been an interesting talent and a bit of a mystery, so we went for him.”
Shopping successful, apparently!
