It’s Aamir Khan, in his Thugs of Hindostan look with twirling moustache, earrings, nose ring – and a sanitary napkin. The star has tweeted an image of himself carrying a pad, writing, “Thank you @mrsfunnybones. Yes, that’s a Pad in my hand & there's nothing to be ashamed about. It's natural! Period. #PadManChallenge. Copy, Paste this & Challenge your friends to take a photo with a Pad. Here I am Challenging @SrBachchan , @iamsrk & @BeingSalmanKhan.”

Eyes are going to be definitely peeled to see if the aforementioned B-town males, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, will pick up the gauntlet. It would be quite a service to the cause of bringing menstruation hygiene out of the closet, if they did!

Apparently, it was the original PadMan, A Muruganantham, on whose life the film PadMan is based, who teed off the PadMan Challenge. He tweeted an image of himself holding up a sanitary pad and flashing a thumbs-up sign. Taking the PadMan Challenge further, he challenged Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte to do the same.

Twinkle aka Mrs Funnybones clearly went ahead, completed the challenge, and nominated her friend Aamir Khan to do the same. A couple of days ago, a new curtain-raiser had been released of the film, which will hit screens on February 9. It depicts a surprised Sonam Kapoor trying to understand how a man can be obsessed with ‘chumming,’ as menstruation is commonly known as. The teaser also shows a festive scene in Akshay’s village where an adolescent getting her first period is being celebrated with dance and revelry by the village women.

Also included, is Akshay Kumar’s character Lakshmikanth’s powerful address at the UN. He makes comparisons between the pads that cricket batsmen wear to protect their legs while playing, and the sanitary pads women wear while menstruating. He wins the hearts of his listeners and also drives home his point.
