Who can forget the simple magic and lilting tunes of Sooraj Barjatya’s 1994 sentimental musical, Hum Aapke Hain Koun? Now buzz has it Rajshri Productions is keen on remaking their modern-day classic, more than two decades after it hit the screens.
In fact, the production house’s Facebook page even conducted an open poll recently, asking fans who they would like to see in the lead roles which had been originally essayed by Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. They asked for suggestions for actors who could regenerate the chemistry between the characters Nisha and Prem. Interestingly, the poll offered only two options – ‘Alia Bhatt-Varun Dhawan’ in one category, and ‘Others’. Looks like Barjatya has pretty much made up his mind already about the popularity of this screen pair!

Apparently, around 2,000 people voted. What’s more, Renuka Shahane who had found huge love for her role as the adorable Bhabhi is all for Varun-Alia taking the film forward today. “Revisiting Hum Aapke Hain Koun would surely bring something different this time around. If it’s remade for the younger generation, I think they’d like to see the characters in a modern sort of way,” she said in an interview.
She also added, “Hum Aapke Hain Koun is a very family-oriented film, where everyone loves each other. It started this whole plethora of Sangeet, Mehendi functions at all family weddings. And that has not gone out of fashion yet, so, definitely, a Hum Aapke Hain Koun remake would still work. And I’d love to see Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan play the new-age Nisha and Prem.”
Alia and Varun evidently are B-town’s absolute favourite onscreen couple. They are poised to star in Dharma Productions’ upcoming Shiddat. And they have already featured in three hit films together - Student of the Year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Not long ago, they reportedly wanted to give their pairing a break and explore other combinations. We do think they would find it difficult to pass up the Hum Aapke Hai Koun remake though, don’t you?
