Will Priyanka Chopra say yes to the Aitraaz sequel?

Fourteen years after the thriller, Aitraaz shocked audiences with its take on a female sexual predator, it is set to return with a sequel. And if all goes well, it will feature its original ‘bad girl’, Priyanka Chopra!

Buzz goes that producer Subhash Ghai has already locked the script for the sequel and intends to start filming by the end of the year. Apparently, while the story had been with Ghai for the past two years, the final draft of the script was locked last month.
Of course, the main aspect of the film – its casting, remains to be finalized. By the sound of it, the original Aitraaz girl Priyanka Chopra could well give the new film the nod. Ghai has reportedly already discussed the sequel with Priyanka and she apparently loved the idea of the sequel. It was, after all, a film that had won her huge praise for her performance in a negative role.

She has shown interest in collaborating with the veteran filmmaker and has even told him that she is trying to work out her dates. The matter will be finalized later in Mumbai, when Priyanka returns from New York after completing the third season of ‘Quantico’.
Ghai’s choice of director is also sure to play an important part in PC’s decision to take up the film. Word has it that Abbas-Mustan, who had directed Aitraaz in 2004, will not return for the sequel. The hunt is on for another director who will take the franchise forward.
If the stunner, who has made considerable strides in the West, does take up the sequel, it will be highly interesting to see the role she will essay. She had played the svelte and sexy Sonia Roy in the original, who tries to seduce her former lover and accuses him of sexual harassment when he rebuffs her.

The actress has become one of the most voluble voices for women rights in cinema. In a recent interview she discussed the omnipresent glass ceiling, saying, “Earlier, it was hard to get an opening for a female-centric film but not so today. Girls have broken that ceiling. I’m the only woman on the Forbes list. As much as I’m proud of the fact that I’m standing neck to neck with my male counterparts, why are the other actresses, given how significant they are in Hindi cinema, not there? Again, the glass ceiling! Girls will fight it eventually.”
