Not just Yahoo man Shammi Kapoor, Bollywood had another 'Shammi' a.k.a Nargis Rabadi, whom we lost today. Post the untimely demise of Sridevi last week, the veteran actress, who was fondly called as 'Shammi Aunty', passed away on Monday night. She was 89.
Born in 1929 to a Parsi family, Shammi entered the film industry in 1949 and signed a 3-film contract with Sheikh Mukhtar for his film Ustad Pedro. Post her contract came to an end, Shammi got an opportunity to star in for Sangdil that featured Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in the lead roles. But it was her role with late comedian Johnny Walker in K Asif's Musafirkhana which gave her name, fame, and recognition as a comic star.
Over her 30 years, she worked with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar etc in films like Coolie No 1, Hum, Mardon Wali Baat, Gurudev, Gopi Kishan, Hum Saath-Saath Hain and Imtihaan.
In the 90s, as good character roles finally began drying up, Shammi found new opportunities on the small screen and was much appreciated in TV shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Shriman Shrimati, Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh and Ghar Ek Sapna.
