At last, there’s news from the diamond trade to cheer about. Nirav Modi, go to the back of the class. Come forward Shloka Mehta. Who is Shloka Mehta? She’s the girl the country is buzzing about. The girl who is reportedly getting married to Akash Ambani, Nita and Mukesh Ambani’s elder son, who is among the world’s most eligible bachelors and quite the catch of the century.
Shloka herself comes from a glittering pedigree. She’s the youngest daughter of Russell Mehta who heads Rosy Blue Diamonds (the old B. Arunkumar & Co.). The business is ranked among the top half-dozen diamond companies in India. And the Mehta family among the most respected in this business around the world.
The rumour of this marriage is spreading like wildfire. And Mumbai’s society lost no time in rushing forward to congratulate Akash and Shloka. The young couple, who studied together at the Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DAIS), showing classy restraint, has been politely turning back the good wishes until such time as everything is finalized. Reportedly emails sent to the Ambani family and to their spokesperson at Reliance Industries Limited by the media seeking confirmation of the wedding have gone unanswered. However, sources told PeepingMoon.com that the Akash-Shloka wedding would happen by the end of this year. No date has been fixed. There is talk of an engagement on March 24, but no confirmation of the same.

After passing out of DAIS, Akash studied Economics at Brown University in Rhode Island, one of the eight Ivy League colleges in the US, and is now Head of Strategy on the board of Reliance Jio, the group’s fast-growing telecom venture. Whereas Shloka studied Anthropology at Princeton University in the US and did a Masters in Law at The London School of Economics and Political Science. She is a director at the Rosy Blue Foundation. A Mehta family friend speaking to the media said, “Shloka is a very charming girl, extremely cultured and it’s difficult to say which of the two families is lucky with this upcoming marriage.” Congratulations are in order. Marriages, they say, are made in heaven. But some get decided in school itself!
