“Overwhelmed” Sanjay Dutt won’t touch his fan’s legacy

January 29, Sanjay Dutt received something of a shock when he received a call from the police informing him that Malabar Hill resident, Nishi Harishchandra Tripathi had willed the money from her account and her bank locker to him. Shock because, it was for the first time that he had heard about the lady in question!

It now appears that Tripathi, who passed away aged 62 on January 15, was a big fan of Sanju. So much so that she had issued letters to her bank, wherein she had willed her possessions to the star!

Nishi Tripathi, a homemaker, lived with her 80-year-old mother Shanti, and siblings Arun, Ashish and Madhu at Triveni Apartments, Malabar Hill.

The family came to know that she had willed her belongings to Dutt, a day after a prayer meeting was held for her. The family’s legal advisor apparently informed them about the contents of her will.

Post that, a representative of the Bank of Baroda’s Walkeshwar branch provided Dutt’s attorney and Tripathi’s family members with a detailed letter and nomination form that she had submitted to the bank a few months before her death. It was confirmed that the nominee was “Film star Sanjay Dutt” with the address of his Pali Hill home also provided. Tripathi had also willed several valuables to Dutt via letters to the bank.

Dutt is expectedly stunned by this development. In a statement he shares, “As actors, we are used to fans naming their children after us, chasing us down the street and even giving us gifts. But this has shocked me. I will not be claiming anything. I did not know Nishi and I am very overwhelmed by the entire incident to speak about it.”

Apparently, the star has issued a letter to the Bank of Baroda’s Walkeshwar branch, informing that the contents of a safety deposit vault bequeathed to him by Nishi Tripathi be handed over to her family members.
