So the makers of Baaghi 2 decided summer this year wasn’t hot enough and unleashed a sneak peek of ‘Ek do teen…’ from the Tiger Shroff-Disha Patani starrer. And trust Jacqueline to send the mercury soaring!
She steps into the formidable shoes of Madhuri Dixit for the iconic ‘Ek do teen…’ song and from what we see from the all-too-brief teaser, she is rocking it. That familiar ‘ding dong ding…’ refrain plays out, with Jackie striking a similar pose to Madhuri in the 1988 film, Tezaab. You might miss Madhuri’s expressive eyes and fluid expressions, but only momentarily… The oomph factor has been amped up, you see, as Jackie zips off her jacket before she plunges into her dance routine in a colourful, spangly bralet!

While the original had men cheering Madhuri on, as they chant “Mohini, Mohini”, the new version has the adoring menfolk holding up lightbulbs for their flame instead!
Tezaab had given Madhuri Dixit her first big break, making her an overnight star. In a throwback interview, her manager Rikku Rakesh Nath had shared the story of how it had all happened. “The ‘Ek do teen…’ song was shot in Mehboob studio for so many days. Listening to it so many times during the shoot, we knew it would be a big hit. Baba Azmi's lighting was superb. Madhuri really worked hard. That song was the highlight of the film. When the film released, Madhuri had gone to the US for a holiday with her sister. I called her and said the film was a hit. She was happy, but she was not aware that she had become an overnight sensation. When she returned to Mumbai, I received her at the airport. There was such a large crowd waiting for her, calling out 'Mohini, Mohini,' her character from Tezaab. That day Madhuri had arrived in the real sense.”
Jacqueline is well aware of how difficult it is to match up to Mads. She had earlier shared,“That was my first stress, that how can we recreate something so iconic like is it even possible? It made it lot easier for me when I understood that it is not possible. We’re not trying to match up to what Madhuri Dixit did. We are not trying to match up to what Saroj (Khan) ji did.”
If we are to judge the remake by these standards, the results are not bad at all!
