Fangirl Anushka tells Rani she continues to be an inspiration!

Today, birthday gal Rani penned an open letter to her fans, friends and well-wishers. The actress, who prefers keeping a low profile when she is not promoting her films, wrote touchingly about her journey in filmdom. “Very rarely do we artists get material that can genuinely cause social change, cause change in attitude and thinking and I have been fortunate enough to get such content multiple times,” she expressed. “I truly feel blessed. I thank all the film-makers who have trusted me with their characters. Your characters, your films, became my identity.”

She also wrote about the discrimination that actresses face in the industry, the stereotyping, the relentless judging that actresses face.

She ended on a note of hope, writing, “I promise you, I will continue working and battling these stereotypes with all my fellow stunning, beautiful, kind and talented actresses and hope to see our society and the film industry mature further. I can already see the changes for the better and it fills me with joy. It makes my journey, my career meaningful.”
Quick to respond to her missive was Anushka Sharma, who commented, “You’ve always been an inspiration and you continue to be one with this letter, here’s to breaking stereotypes. Happy Birthday Rani!”

Anushka had made her Bollywood film debut with Rani’s now husband Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008. A YRF discovery, she had gone on to star in more films under the banner including Badmaash Company, Band Baaja Baraat, Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Sultan.

Last year on India Today’s Unforgettables, the two actresses had come together to discuss their careers and film choices. Anushka had shared, “I remember vividly growing up watching your films, watching your performances. I used to walk out of the theatre feeling like I have been represented well, as an Indian young girl with aspirations.”
