The rescheduling of Vishal Bhardwaj’s Irrfan Khan-Deepika Padukone-starrer, owing to Irrfan’s unfortunate illness, has led the director to reschedule his diary. With four other projects in the pipeline, Vishal now seems to be going ahead with his Churiyan, a film on sibling rivalry.The film will roll this April and Vishal has chosen the lovely Sanya Malhotra, who played Aamir Khan’s younger daughter in Dangal, to play one of the leads in this two-heroine project.

Buzz has it that Vishal was in talks with a few actresses for the role. However, he plumped for Sanya, as he had liked her performance in Dangal immensely. After his very first meeting with her, he had decided to offer her the part of the younger sibling in his film.
However, for those expecting a repeat of the Dangal casting, it is not happening. Vishal had recently tweeted about reports of Sanya and Fatima Sana Shaikh reuniting for his film to play the warring sisters. He had termed the news baseless, dubbing it “stupid speculation”. Apparently, Fatima was not even in contention for the role of the older sibling. While only Sanya has been locked in for now, talks are currently on with a few other actresses for casting the role of the elder sister.

One of the names being bandied around is that of Vaani Kapoor. It is said that Vishal is keen to work with the Befikre beauty, who he believes has great screen presence. However, Vaani will most likely be approached for one of his other films. The two have even met and discussed potential projects. However, no formal announcement has yet been made.

Churiyan will be Sanya’s fourth film. She is currently shooting for Badhaai Ho opposite Ayushmann Khurrana and Nawazudding Siddiqui in Photograph.

Ayushmann recently gushed over her acting abilities. He shared, “My brother (Aparshakti Khurrana) and Sanya share a good bonding as they worked together on Dangal. I remember meeting her on the sets of Dangal; she had short hair, looked very different. She is a great performer. I remember shooting an ad film with her in the past. She has started from scratch and today whatever she has achieved in her career, it is on her own.”
