Vidya and Bhumi in a slice-of-life film? Yes, please!

Loved the way Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari crafted the delightful entertainer Bareilly Ki Barfi? Mad about Vidya Balan and everything she does? Tickled by Bhumi Pednekar’s cinematic charm? If you’ve answered yes to all of the above you, like us, are bound to be looking forward to a project that brings these three talents together for the first time ever.

The film will be a slice of life entertainer, with a stimulating blend of comedy, emotions and drama – in short, a film that promises to be nothing short of unmissable. Apparently, Ashwini, who has often indicated her desire to work with the uber-gifted Vidya Balan, finally gave Vidya a hearing of her upcoming film. They have met a couple of times and have discussed the film. Vidya has liked the concept and greenlighted the project, although she is yet to sign on the dotted line.

The other interesting development sees Bhumi Pednekar most likely coming on board too. Ashwiny has already approached Bhumi for another role in the film and talks are said to be at an advanced stage. Both Vidya and Bhumi are well aware of Ashiwny’s work and were happy to come on board. Both are also clear about the roles they will play in this slice of life film.

Going by Ashwiny’s past record, her debut film, Nil Battey Sannata and Bareilly Ki Barfi, good things are naturally expected from this film as well. Both had featured strong women characters and her upcoming film is touted to be no different. For those wondering if a male character would feature in this two-heroine film, yes, it will! The hunt is currently on for the male lead, who will essay an important role as well. Apparently, Ashwiny has a few actors in mind but is yet to approach them for the role.

In an interview after the release of Bareilly Ki Barfi, Ashwiny had pointed out, “Nil Battey Sannata was a story about a mother and daughter but both men and women watched it and were moved by it. I wouldn’t call Bareilly Ki Barfi a quintessentially woman-centric film. It is a story about characters who are all struggling in their own paths.”

For those tempted to term her upcoming Vidya-Bhumi film a ‘women’s film’, maybe we shouldn’t be in such a rush after all!
