Touted to be produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Sidharth Roy Kapur, Priyanka has reportedly really liked the concept. She is to take the final decision soon. Shonali has already started work on the prep of the film, even as the team simultaneously concentrates on casting the male lead.
Speaking about her upcoming project, Shonali confirmed, “We are not sure of the cast yet, but I am doing a film with Ronnie and Sid. It’s an original script written by me and inspired by a true story.”Going by Shonali’s last work, Margarita with a Straw, the script is bound to be both unusual and powerful. Shonali had made her mark with her 2014 film about a teenager with cerebral palsy who relocates to America for her undergraduate education. It followed the character Layla’s life as she came of age following a complex relationship with a blind girl played by Sayani Gupta.
The film had premiered at the 2914 Toronto International Film Festival. It had also won its leading lady Kalki Koechlin the Special Jury – National Film Award for her portrayal of Layla.
