Bikini pics are amongst the most searched for most Indian men – yet let a desi celebrity be clicked in swimwear in the pool or on a beach and suddenly all hell breaks loose. Radhika Apte was recently genuinely perplexed by the hate that greeted a pic of hers in a swimsuit on a beach. She had responded to the slut-shaming for supposedly going against ‘Indian culture’, saying, “It's ridiculous! Do people expect me to wear a sari on a beach?” Fatima Sana Shaikh drew ire galore for showing her midriff in swimwear during Ramzan, while Sonam was shamed for sporting a bikini as she soaked up the sun by the pool in the Far East.
Mandira Bedi had been defamed earlier this year, when she had shared a picture of herself in a bikini during a vacation in Phuket. Now the trolls are back as she shared a pic of herself, looking fabulous, in a bikini from her holiday in Goa. The intensity of the shaming is shocking and it is getting to be a scary pattern.

Ironically, just a few days ago Mandira was on MTV Troll Police, sharing her experiences with the ugly trolling. “I had enough cases of men judging me for entering their territory but it was largely face to face, so I had a chance to give it back to them,” she said, adding, that the scenario had now changed in the digital era. “Now things have changed because with social media, anonymity comes to their rescue. But what I have experienced over these years is that Indian men are cowards. Usually, I don’t pay attention to such comments because on one hand I have women who call me their inspiration and on the other hand I have body shaming comments by men!”

She admitted, “Even though I prefer to ignore it but at times, it is very disturbing to read such comments especially with the kind of language trolls use. It feels like an assault. The behaviour of these trolls is stemming from the poor upbringing where women are objectified and confined inside the four walls.”
