English Premier League ambassador and Arsenal FC supporter Ranveer Singh has injured himself playing football, it is reliably learned. And the actor, whose shoulder is suspect, has reportedly been advised not to strain the muscle for at least a month. But Ranveer, who is busy shooting for Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, has decided not to take any breaks and disrupt the continuity of the shoot. He is going ahead with the schedule. What might take a hit, however, is the actor’s finale performance at the IPL Season 11 opening ceremony on April 7 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

The IPL’s opening ceremony has become one of the country’s most spectacular events which sees two of the people’s big passions, cricket and cinema, coming together in a grand ceremony. This year, too, several top Bollywood stars have been picked to kick start the world’s most prestigious and cash-rich Twenty20 cricket tournament in a 45-minute song and dance extravaganza. And among the star performers is Ranveer, Varun Dhawan, Parineeti Chopra and Jacqueline Fernandez. Ranveer, according to the Hindustan Times, is reportedly being paid Rs. 5 crores for his IPL act. Though the DNA said Varun is the highest paid performer at the IPL and the organisers may be giving him Rs. 6 crores.
At this point, the money it is paying the stars for the opening ceremony may not be uppermost on the mind of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). What must be worrying the organisers is whether Ranveer will be fit to take the field at the Wankhede on April 7and do his act. Indications are that the actor is concerned about this as well and is in consultation with his doctors. They will take a call on Ranveer’s shoulder in two days and decide whether he can pull off his finale act at the IPL show. The accident is most unfortunate because Ranveer is passionately crazy about football and follows the sport at the local and international level closely. The opening game of the IPL Season 11 follows the starry opening ceremony and will see defending champions Mumbai Indians take on two-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) which is returning to the IPL along with Rajasthan Royals after a gap of two years.
